Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
A contemporary dining or work table occupies the center of a bright interior space, presented in a square-format photograph that captures both the furniture piece and its architectural setting. Scanning from background to foreground, large windows divided by teal-green frames fill the upper two-thirds of the composition, their glass surfaces bearing rain droplets that soften views of lush green tropical trees and foliage beyond, creating an atmosphere like being inside during a gentle warm rain. In the left portion of the middle ground, a figure in a white short-sleeved top and black pants walks past, rendered in motion blur that suggests movement over perhaps one second of exposure, her form ghostly and translucent against the green backdrop. The table itself commands the center and lower portions of the frame, its top a smooth horizontal plane finished in pure white with softly rounded corners, the surface cool and expansive like fresh paper or polished stone. Four extraordinary legs support this simple top, and these legs deserve careful description: each is a complex three-dimensional lattice of metal finished in a warm bronze or rose-copper tone that would feel smooth and cool to the touch, their forms branching and interconnecting like the internal structure of bone or the framework of a leaf, with openings and voids between the metal strands creating an almost lace-like delicacy despite their structural purpose. The legs taper as they rise to meet the tabletop and spread wider at the floor, each leg unique yet harmonious with its companions. Upon the table surface rest two clear glass vessels containing arrangements of dried flowers and grasses in warm golden and tan tones, adding organic texture. The floor beneath is polished concrete in pale gray, its smooth surface reflecting subtle light and the forms above. The overall atmosphere feels fresh, refined, and contemporary, with soft diffused daylight creating gentle illumination without harsh shadows.
Standard designs for a table this heavy would require a thick section under the tabletop. Artificial intelligence presents a powerful tool to search for structurally more efficient design strategies to deliver radically new aesthetics, producing zero wastage in the fabrication. Using precise 3DPrinted sand molds, the three unique legs are cast in bronze and manually polished, creating sophisticated effects of nuanced reflections under changing light conditions. AI Table showcases how digital design can foster creativity and pragmatism.
